| I've owned older versions of the JBL On Stage line and this one has been the best experience yet. The sound produced from this model is great and gets loud enough without distortion to use in any environment. When you first dock an iPod or iPhone with it and begin playing, it starts out on a low volume setting so you have to turn it up each time you dock it but it keeps you from being blasted out like the older models did. I haven't bothered to use this one running on the 6 AA batteries since I've always been somewhere with AC power for it. I've only used this with the original iPhone. There are some changes Apple made to how the 3G iPhones charge that although they will play music through older devices, they'll display an error message when you first connect them. With the original iPhone this speaker worked perfectly, though. |
Amazing sound and portability

I am a Bose fan, and most speakers pale in comparison. I am now a JBL fan as well. The sound is simply fantastic. It goes out in all directions, and can easily fill a large room. It is very portable, and works just as well on batteries as it does with the cord. I can't believe how much I use this product, I reach for it before some of my built in speakers, and even Bose Wave Radio in the bedroom, this just sounds so good.
The sound is clear and crisp, with great range. Works wonderful with my iPhone, and as a speaker for any of my laptops. It is surprisingly small for the quality of sound it produces, and because it pushes sound out in every direction, the sound fills the area/room very nicely.
I have heard and played with many other portable speakers for iPods/iPhones, and I find most to be very tinny sounding, and quit a bit of distortion. Plus they push sound out in only one direction, which causes more distortion at louder volumes and larger rooms or outside. This is simply the best speakers I have heard, I think I even prefer them to the Bose sound dock! I would definitely buy these before a Bose Sound Dock. The size, portability, and quality is absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend purchasing these speakers, you will not be disappointed. |

The OnStage IIIp speakers are shielded and do not produce interference noises when my iPhone receives calls. The sound quality is outstanding, and these speakers have won several head-to-head comparisons in the operating room (who doesn't have a speaker set that sounds like it came from the dollar store that they connect their iPod to?). At any rate, pop in the iPhone (sans Airplane mode) and start up Pandora for hours of great music (unlike the computer version, Pandora will play for much longer without user input). Remember that the "p" in "IIIp" is important if you want the speakers to be shielded from wireless cell signal interference.

I am just baffled at how JBL manages to pull so much sound out of such a small device.
Pros:
* Incredible sound in a small package
* Easy to use remote and controls on the surface of the unit
* Works with my 3G without the annoying buzzing sound other speakers put off when the phone syncs with the carrier - no need for airplane mode.
* Sleek and attractive. If I had a more powerful fan in the room, I'd say aerodynamic as well.
* This wasn't on the box but was a concern when I bought it: It does in fact work as an alarm clock speaker. As someone that could sleep through artillery, I needed a speaker that would blast me out of bed... woah! It sure does.
Cons:
* Multiple adapters support many iDevices but the adapters are poorly labeled. Would be nice if the model was just printed on the packages.
* Way too much plastic wrapping for my environmentally concerned mind.
* Sideways power bring takes a lot of space on my surge strip.
Better if:
* There was an indentation to post the remote control - there's just no where to put it when you are done other than just laying it on top. |

| The sound that comes out of this thing is phenomenal, esp. for it's size. The bass response is very good.. it's really hard to believe how they were able to engineer this. Sound may be slightly tinny at times, but this is in comparison to something that may have a speaker the size of this entire unit, so it's not fair to compare. Some complain about the price, but you get what you pay for and this truly delivers. I think a part of what makes this so good is that there are 4 speakers and they are all pointed in different directions. So you get sound bouncing off the walls and you can hear it from all directions.. it's really quite nice. |

JBL's been in the iPod dock business for awhile, so it's no surprise that the company has crafted enough models to keep up with an ever-increasing army of iPod owners. Which one is right for you? Well, that depends what kind of pod person you are: For the Power Hungry For those who seek more volume, the On Stage 400ID should be your first stop. At 2x15 Watts, it's the loudest and largest of the bunch, and features an Atlas woofer for added bass. But size isn't everything--the On Stage Micro boasts the same wattage rating without the woofer. For the Weekend Warriors Those who need a dock that they can take anywhere should investigate docks that can be powered by batteries. The On Stage Micro runs on four AAAs, whereas the On Stage IIIP and On Stage III run on six. Take your music to the beach, on camping trips--wherever you can't bear to be without it. For the iPhone Techies The iPhone owner--if you can stand to put the thing down--has a couple choices. The On Stage IIIP provides a smaller and more portable option, or the On Stage 200ID gives a bit more power. These two docks support all docking iPod models as well. For the Featurephiles or Heavy Sleepers Some of us just aren't content with basic functionality; we need more buttons, more lights. Others just need a little nudge to wake up in the morning. If this is you, then the On Time 200ID and 400IHD are for you. Both feature an alarm clock and AM/FM radio, with the ability to wake up to your favorite song stored on your iPod (and then reject it with the snooze button). Of course, for the masochists, a classic buzzer is also available. The On Time 400IHD adds a dual alarm clock and HD radio to the mix, for a crystal-clear signal and a variety of text-based information (artist name, song title, weather alerts, school closings, etc.) scrolled across your screen. Something for Everyone All of these models feature a remote control for full iPod navigation, Evercharge topology to charge iPod even when not connected to a PC or the system is turned off, a mini-jack for auxiliary devices, and the sleek design and solid performance you'd expect from JBL. | Compatibility The JBL On Stage IIIP system is compatible with docking versions of the iPod, including the iPod touch, iPhone, iPod classic and iPod nano G3. A stereo mini jack connection also allows you to enjoy high-quality audio from a variety of other devices, such as MP3 and CD players, desktop computers (all platforms), satellite radio, and laptops. Specific dockable iPod compatibility: iPod mini 1G; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G; iPod 3G, 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod touch; iPhone. Easy-to-Use Music and Navigation Controls Just a touch of the music controls increases or decreases the volume. Using the navigation controls, browse songs, playlists and photos, change tracks and settings, and more. Connection Versatility The JBL On Stage IIIP loudspeaker dock is a multimedia focal point. Enjoy your iPod, view photos or videos, and listen to virtually any other auxiliary audio component, all through the JBL On Stage IIIP system. Additional Features - IR remote--The JBL On Stage IIIP IR remote has several modes of operation. The Music mode allows you to control the volume, change tracks, fast forward, and fast reverse. The Navigation mode allows you to access menus on your mobile digital device just as if you were controlling the unit itself. You can search your music, watch your slideshows, and find and play your videos.
- Evercharge topology--The system charges your iPod/iPhone, even when not connected to the computer or if the system is off.
Advanced Technology The JBL On Stage IIIP loudspeaker dock combines many proprietary technologies to provide the highest quality sound, astonishing bass, and clear and accurate sound from any direction. - Odyssey transducers--The Odyssey drivers deliver accurate high frequencies while capable of low-frequency extension of four octaves, unlike traditional powered tweeters. This design provides a full, rich frequency response, from low bass to the highest highs.
- Slipstream port design--The port minimizes boundary layer separation, producing high-output bass with low distortion.
- COE (Computer-Optimized Equalization)--The system equalization is computer-optimized to provide a rich, complete soundstage over a range of listening positions.
- OCT (Optimized Compression Topology)--The proprietary compression technology ensures clean, accurate sound at high output levels.
- AEMS (Advanced Energy Management System)--The automatic battery-saving shutoff will automatically put the system into sleep mode when there is no audio input. The system awakens with just a touch and resumes at the same volume level.
- Battery-powered--The JBL On Stage IIIP system uses most types of AA batteries. Six fresh AA batteries allow up to 12 hours of continuous play at normal listening levels. An amber LED flashes when the battery protection circuit senses that the batteries are low. JBL encourages the use of rechargeable batteries (e.g., NiMH), to reduce waste and help the environment.
